GoGo Tech Proceeds with a 30-Megawatt Hydro Mining Site in Fort Worth

GoGo Tech is advancing a 30-megawatt hydro mining site in Fort Worth, Texas. The project is in development. A month for commercial operation has not been set.

North Texas has emerged as a primary corridor for large mining loads that require transmission-level delivery on the Texas grid. Interconnection interest around Dallas–Fort Worth is among the heaviest in ERCOT’s footprint, as utilities plan for concentrated large-load growth. Against that backdrop, GoGo Tech is treating Fort Worth as a defined 30-megawatt hydro mining development — sized so delivery and procurement can be arranged with named counterparties rather than left open-ended.

Physical delivery depends on new line work. Oncor Electric Delivery is constructing the power lines that will serve the Fort Worth Hydro Mining Site. Oncor is the largest transmission-and-distribution utility in Texas. It owns and operates the wires through north-central Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth metro, and across substantial portions of east and west Texas. In competitive retail territory, Oncor does not sell the commodity; it builds and maintains the path electricity travels.

The commodity itself is contracted separately. GoGo Tech has a power purchase agreement with Shell Energy under which power is purchased dynamically, via API, directly from the ERCOT wholesale power pool. That arrangement allows the Fort Worth load to take energy from the organized Texas market as conditions change, instead of relying on a single static schedule. ERCOT — the Electric Reliability Council of Texas — operates the bulk-power system and the energy-only wholesale market that covers most of the state’s electric demand, clearing both a day-ahead market and a real-time market.

The Fort Worth Hydro Mining Site remains in development.
